WOMAN LEFT WITH HER SKULL EXPOSED AFTER JEALOUS EX ATTACKED HER WITH A BRICK
A woman was left with an exposed skull after an attack using a brick by her ex-partner.Shannon Johnson, 25 years old, was pursued to her home by Thomas Bardsley, who carried out a violent assault on her at her doorstep.
The incident was caught on her doorbell camera, showing him covered in her blood after she managed to escape inside.
From Sussex, Ms Johnson described Bardsley's attack as monstrous.
Her injuries were so severe that her eight-month-old daughter did not recognise her for weeks.
She referred to the incident as horrific, warning that Bardsley would turn her life into a nightmare.
Johnson started dating Bardsley in 2019, initially experiencing his seemingly caring behaviour, with frequent compliments and outings.
However, two months later, his temperament worsened, especially after drinking alcohol, which led to him kicking her in the legs while they were in bed.
She confronted him, and he blamed his violence on alcohol use.
He also exerted pressure on her to return early from a work trip to Cambodia, even messaging her colleagues to persuade her.
Despite her pleas, he persisted, causing her embarrassment.
She also endured a miscarriage and developed sepsis during this period, with Bardsley showing no concern.
She fell pregnant again, but he refused to attend medical scans.
A non-molestation order was eventually issued after Bardsley's verbal abuse in front of her friend.
When her daughter was born in 2021, she later met someone new.
Bardsley found out and subjected her to street abuse, which terrified her.
One night in December, after a night out, she saw Bardsley crouched on her street.
As she passed, he called her “the devil,” then threatened to kill her.
He grabbed her throat and pressed his thumbs into her windpipe.
She screamed as Bardsley fumbled on the ground, and she was struck repeatedly on the head with a heavy object.
Her current partner intervened, chasing him away, and Shannon called emergency services.
Bardsley returned outside her home, covered in her blood.
She was taken to Worthing Hospital, where she received stitches following a CT scan that revealed a head wound exposing her skull.
Her face and eyes swelled, and her young daughter didn't recognize her.
Bardsley was brought before Lewes Crown Court in June 2022 and found guilty of wounding with intent and threats to kill.
He received a ten-year prison sentence in January and was subject to a lifelong restraining order to ensure her safety.
