TERRANCE DUNSTAN FROM LEEDS AND MORLEY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS
In a case that spanned over a decade, Terrance Dunstan, aged 61, from Leeds and Morley, was finally brought to justice for a series of serious sexual offenses committed against young girls. The conviction followed a remarkable investigation that involved an unusual twist—an alleged supernatural intervention that led to his arrest and subsequent sentencing. For eleven years, Dunstan managed to evade legal repercussions despite having committed multiple acts of abuse at his residence. His crimes involved three young girls, whose ages ranged from early adolescence to late teens at the time of the offenses. The victims' suffering remained hidden until a pivotal event at a psychic show in Morley, West Yorkshire.
One of the victims, who had never previously disclosed her ordeal, attended a séance hosted by Patrick Hutchinson, aged 45. During the session, Hutchinson claimed to receive a message from the girl’s deceased grandmother, urging her to reveal the truth about the abuse. Overcome with emotion, the girl broke down in tears and fled the scene. Her emotional outburst prompted her to confide in a friend who was also present at the séance. It was during this conversation that she disclosed her own history of abuse, which she had kept secret for years.
This revelation led to further disclosures, and police investigations uncovered a total of three victims. The authorities acted swiftly, and Dunstan was eventually apprehended and brought to trial. At Leeds Crown Court, he was found guilty of five counts of indecent assault. The court proceedings revealed that Dunstan had previously been given a community order in March 2005 after admitting to four charges of indecently assaulting three girls between 1989 and 2004. Dunstan claimed that his guilty plea at that time was motivated by a desire to avoid imprisonment.
Judge Rodney Grant, presiding over the case, described Dunstan’s crimes as 'serious offences of a sexual nature.' The judge emphasized that the assaults took place within Dunstan’s own home, where he had encouraged the young victims to visit him, thereby creating an environment of trust that he exploited for his own gratification.
Patrick Hutchinson expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “I’m delighted justice has been done, and it’s all down to the spirit world. I didn’t want to get involved with it during a show, but the gran was seething mad that he’d got away with it, and there was no keeping her quiet.”
Following the conviction, Dunstan was sentenced to five years in prison, marking a significant step in addressing the long-standing abuse and bringing closure to the victims and their families.
