LEEDS MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENTLY INJURING FIVE-MONTH-OLD BABY
A man named Taylor Biggins, aged 24 and residing in Birstall, Leeds, was sentenced to a duration of two years and ten months in prison after he committed a violent act involving a five-month-old baby.Biggins forcibly threw the infant towards a TV cabinet, which resulted in a fractured skull and severe brain damage.
The child is now likely to face lifelong challenges, including at least mild cognitive impairment affecting motor skills, according to medical professionals.
The mother of the baby described the incident as a "poisonous act" and expressed that "the baby is likely to have brain damage throughout his life".
She further stated that "no prison sentence will compare to the life sentence he has caused".
The court proceedings revealed that Biggins, who is also a gambling addict, had a history of gambling problems, which may have contributed to his aggressive behavior that night.
During the court hearing at Leeds Crown Court, the prosecutor Tom Storey detailed that Biggins admitted to shaking and throwing the baby, acknowledging his responsibility for all injuries inflicted.
Biggins claimed he found the child unresponsive and not breathing and suggested it was an accidental fall.
However, he pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm, on the basis that he did not intend to cause serious injuries.
Additionally, Biggins has a previous conviction for assault from 2015, where he kicked his pregnant ex-girlfriend.
His lawyer, Adrian Waterman, argued that Biggins did not set out to hurt the child intentionally and attributed the incident to a "moment of utter madness" driven by his own failings and immaturity.
