SHEFFIELD MAN JAILED FOR TRAFFICKING WOMEN INTO PROSTITUTION
Three individuals have been sentenced to up to 21 years imprisonment after being convicted of trafficking women into the UK and forcing them into prostitution.Tasim Axhami, originally from Kosovo, received a 21-year sentence, and was also convicted of rape.
Albanian Emilijan Beqirat, aged 18, was sentenced to 16 years, and Lithuanian Vilma Kizlaite, aged 20, was sentenced to 11 years.
The judge Trevor Barber told Sheffield Crown Court that the actions of the accused 'absolutely beggared belief,' describing how they transported women 'like cattle' across the UK and subjected them to a life of forced prostitution.
The judge emphasized that 'the treatment those two girls suffered at the men's hands just didn't bear thinking about' and criticized their lack of moral scruples.
The defendants faced a total of 13 charges, including trafficking, false imprisonment, and causing sexual activity without consent.
Axhami was convicted of three counts of rape, while all three were convicted of sex trafficking and controlling prostitutes for gain.
South Yorkshire Police welcomed the lengthy sentences, underscoring their commitment to tackling sexual trafficking and protecting victims.
