TARJIT SINGH AND SHOCKING DECEPTION IN ENFIELD
A man who was born female but now identifies as male, known as Tarjit Singh, has been convicted of serious sexual crimes involving three women in the London Borough of Enfield. The case reveals a disturbing pattern of manipulation and deception carried out over nearly six years, from June 2010 to March 2016.Tarjit Singh, formerly known as Hannah Walters, engaged in abusive and exploiting relationships with each of his three victims, who initially believed they were involved with a man. During these encounters, Singh would typically wear male clothing and would use a prosthetic penis to simulate sexual activity that appeared to be consensual. The darkness and concealment during sexual acts initially obscured the truth from the victims. It was only after certain suspicions arose that some of them began to ask more probing questions.
As the victims sought answers, Singh responded with hostility and manipulation. He attempted to maintain control by downplaying the nature of their relationships, telling one victim that there was more to their connection than just sex and urging her to open up about her feelings. This pattern of abusive behavior revealed the depth of Singh’s manipulative tactics, designed to keep the victims loyal and unaware of his true gender.
The convictions against Singh include three counts of assault by penetration, six counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and one count of making a threat to kill, which were all established during a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court. The court heard firsthand accounts from the victims, with one describing Singh as appearing and acting entirely like a man. She only uncovered the truth about Singh’s biological sex after discovering a strap-on prosthetic penis some months into their relationship.
This victim expressed feelings of betrayal and stupidity, admitting she felt deceived by the lies Singh had told her. Another victim reported that Singh had claimed he was born male, had undergone a sex change to become female, and now wanted to switch back to male. The third victim encountered Singh through the dating website Plenty of Fish in 2014. She believed he had undergone a sex change and noticed after their meeting that Singh now appeared to have breasts but no visible scarring, which further complicated her understanding.
Singh’s deceit was exposed when their relationship turned abusive, prompting one victim to report the incident to police. An investigation then linked Singh's actions to the earlier victims, revealing a pattern of manipulation across multiple relationships. Evidence obtained from Singh’s mobile phone included visits to websites such as FreeToMProsthetics.com, a site specializing in ultra-realistic prosthetic genitalia, indicating premeditation and intent.
Melissa Garner from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) highlighted the gravity of the deception, stating, “These victims have been deceived, betrayed and lied to in the most disturbing and traumatic of ways. One of the victims was just 16 years old when she met the defendant.” Garner emphasized the trauma inflicted by Singh’s actions and commended the victims for their courage in giving evidence during the trial.
Singh has consistently denied guilt, insisting that the victims knew about his gender identity at all times. Despite this, the evidence and testimony presented in court contradicted his claims. Prosecutors underscored the seriousness of these offenses, which exemplify the complex and sensitive nature of sexual crimes.
Sentencing for Singh is scheduled to take place at Snaresbrook Crown Court on July 27, with the court likely to consider the profound breach of trust and the harm caused to the victims. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and justice in addressing sexual offenses and manipulation, reinforcing the commitment of legal authorities to protect victims and bring offenders to justice in the London Borough of Enfield.
