2005: WOMAN JAILED FOR FALSE RAPE CLAIM AFTER VOLATILE RELATIONSHIP
2005: A woman who falsely alleged that her ex-boyfriend raped her has received a sentence of one year in prison.During her court appearance, Tanya Moores was visibly upset and crying as she was led out of the courtroom after being sentenced.
The judge explained that her false claim stemmed from feelings of betrayal, describing her as 'a woman scorned.' Her former partner, Carl Thompson, was detained for several hours while authorities examined her account.
Later, Thompson wrote a letter to Bolton Crown Court, expressing forgiveness toward Moores.
The judge, Lindsey Kushner QC, criticized Moores’ conduct, emphasizing the potential harm to Thompson and the broader public, and stating that incarceration was the only fitting punishment.
Moores, who has a young daughter from Johnson Fold, initially told police that Thompson had forcibly entered her home and raped her in the front bedroom following a consensual encounter the previous day.
Police investigations included interviews and a forensic examination at a Rape Crisis Centre.
Although she maintained her story during court proceedings, Moores later admitted she had fabricated the incident.
She had endured a tumultuous relationship with Thompson, marked by jealousy and possessiveness, which contributed to her distress after their breakup.
She pleaded guilty to charges of perverting the course of justice.
The court highlighted the importance of safeguarding the credibility of genuine victims and the serious consequences of false accusations.
