HIGH COURT HEARING FOR WOMAN WHO MOLESTED BOY AND ABUSED DOG
Sylvia Carroll, aged 42, committed heinous acts that have been described as "disgraceful" by the judge Lady Poole during her appearance at the High Court in Edinburgh.She was found to have possessed extreme pornographic images depicting explicit and realistic sexual activity involving dogs and horses.
Moreover, Sylvia sexually abused a boy under ten years old, taking indecent photographs of him and distributing these via the Snapchat and WhatsApp messaging platforms.
In addition, Sylvia took indecent videos of her abuse and shared them with a contact in a WhatsApp message thread containing around 17,000 messages, during which she detailed the abuse of the child.
The police investigation revealed that she was responsible for creating all the indecent media found on her devices.
Sylvia also took and shared videos of herself molesting a boy and sexually abusing a dog, actions condemned as "repugnant to society." She pleaded guilty to these serious offences, with her solicitor acknowledging her poor mental health.
Sylvia was remanded in custody, pending a future hearing.
The case has been adjourned with a scheduled hearing later in the year.
SENTENCING DATED 26/09/2025 At the High Court in Edinburgh, Ian and Sylvia Carroll were sentenced for their involvement in serious sexual offences.
Ian Carroll received a prison sentence of two years and six months after being convicted of creating and possessing extreme pornographic material.
His wife, Sylvia Carroll, will be supervised for three years after completing her custodial term.
In her remarks, Lady Poole described the couple’s crimes as “shocking and appalling,” stressing that their behaviour was “depraved and disgraceful.” She said the harm caused to victims was profound and that the pair’s actions showed a complete disregard for the consequences.
The judge noted that although neither had previously served time in custody, the gravity of the offences left the court with no alternative to significant prison sentences.
The court also ordered that both will remain on the sex offenders register for life.
Earlier hearings revealed that police, acting on intelligence, seized 34 electronic devices from the couple’s home.
Investigators uncovered hundreds of illegal images and videos, along with a WhatsApp chat on Sylvia Carroll’s phone containing around 17,000 messages.
In those exchanges, she described in real time the abuse of a young child and shared video clips of the assaults.
Two videos of extreme pornography were also found on Ian Carroll’s devices.
During sentencing, Ian Carroll’s defence lawyer asked the court to treat him more leniently than his wife, while Sylvia Carroll’s counsel highlighted her history of trauma and vulnerability.
Despite these submissions, Lady Poole made clear that the severity of their crimes demanded lifelong monitoring and substantial prison terms.
