SUSANNE DIVERS FROM MELTON JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 14-YEAR-OLD BOY NEAR LEICESTER

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Melton and the surrounding areas near Leicester, Susanne Divers, a 26-year-old mother of two, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy. The incident came to light after Divers was discovered in her bed with the underage boy, an event that was witnessed by her fiancé, who had returned home unexpectedly from work.

According to court records, Divers had initially befriended the boy after meeting him at a social gathering, specifically a party, where they first interacted. Over the course of more than a month, the two developed a clandestine affair that involved intimate encounters. The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was so enamored with Divers that he publicly boasted on Facebook about their relationship, claiming, “I’ve got the best girl in the world.”

Despite police warnings issued to Divers to cease contact with the minor, she continued to see him in secret. The situation escalated when her fiancé, returning home early from work, found her in bed with the boy. This discovery led to her arrest and subsequent court proceedings. Divers pleaded guilty to eight counts of sexual activity with a child, covering the period from December 28, 2009, to February 2 of this year.

During sentencing, Judge John Milmo QC condemned her actions, stating that she had betrayed her fiancé in a “flagrant manner.” The judge emphasized that the police had previously warned Divers to stay away from the boy, and her continued involvement was a clear breach of that warning. The court noted that her fiancé had written to the court, indicating that he had forgiven her despite the betrayal.

As part of her sentence, Divers was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was prohibited from working with children. The court also heard that Divers was dared at the party to kiss the boy, an act she described as “more than a peck on the cheek.” This initial contact led to a series of inappropriate exchanges, including text messages and the exchange of nude photographs.

The relationship saw the boy frequently skipping school to meet Divers at her residence in Melton. At one point, Divers attempted to end the affair, but the boy, deeply affected, attempted to hang himself. Following this, they resumed their meetings. On January 22, the boy visited Divers’s partner and showed him incriminating texts, claiming they had engaged in sexual activity on seven occasions. Divers denied the allegations, asserting she never wanted to see the boy again. The boy’s suicide attempt followed this confrontation.

Despite police warnings after the suicide attempt, Divers continued her relationship with the boy, meeting him covertly around her partner’s work shifts. The situation reached a climax on February 2 when her partner, feeling unwell, returned home early and discovered the two in bed together. He forced open the bedroom door and found both Divers and the boy naked. The boy fled the scene, leaving the house naked and calling emergency services. Her partner was physically assaulted during the incident and received a police caution.

Following these events, the boy made a formal complaint to the authorities. Divers, who was engaged to her partner of three years, was released on bail but later sent the boy a love letter on February 27, claiming she was “engaged” to him instead. During the court hearing, mitigation was presented by Barbara McDonnell, who highlighted that Divers had lost custody of her two young sons, aged six and eight, from a previous relationship. McDonnell also noted the rarity of a female defendant facing such charges and emphasized that Divers took full responsibility for her actions without shifting blame onto the boy.

As the court sentenced her, Divers was visibly distressed, sobbing as she was led away. The judge imposed a sex offenders’ prevention order, which prohibits her from having unsupervised contact with any male under the age of 16, aiming to prevent any future harm. This case has left a lasting impact on the community of Melton and has raised serious concerns about safeguarding and the importance of vigilance in protecting minors from exploitation.
