LEICESTER MAN, 43, JAILED FOR WIFE'S MURDER
Anthony Campbell, aged 43 and a resident of Leicester, received a life sentence for the murder of his wife, Rhonda Campbell. The court was informed that Rhonda, 38 years old and mother to three children, was discovered dead from strangulation at her residence on Ash Grove, Melton, on November 23, 2009.
Campbell admitted to the killing and was sentenced at Leicester Crown Court, where a minimum of 15 years imprisonment was imposed.
Initially, he attempted to hide his involvement but later confessed to police, stating, "We got into an argument, she had been with someone else and...
wanted a divorce and I ended up killing her." Evidence indicated Campbell used a rope to strangle Rhonda, although a post-mortem revealed she was strangled with a belt.
During his sentencing, Judge Michael Pert voiced concern about Rhonda’s suffering, noting, "It's clear this is a case where the mode of killing would have taken time and would have caused suffering on your victim's part." Campbell’s legal representative claimed he showed remorse; Robin Howat highlighted that he acknowledged the damage caused.
Rhonda’s mother, Helen Hack, along with her daughters Kashia, Melina, and Melika, described her death as "the worst thing anyone could ever imagine," sharing emotional statements of grief and longing to have her alive again.
