DOMESTIC ABUSER ATTACKED PARTNER AFTER GLASTONBARRY FESTIVAL
A domestic abuse incident saw a man threaten his partner with harm and later physically assault her after returning from the GlastonBarry Festival.Stuart Mountjoy, who had been living with his partner for around eight months, was described by the prosecution as being involved in a troubled relationship, which he pleaded guilty to damaging.
On July 26, after attending the festival together, Mountjoy lost his temper and stormed off following an argument.
His partner pleaded with him via messages to return home, but his reply was threatening: ‘Your end is near and you’re going to die soon’.
When he came back, he told her: ‘I hope you die a slow and painful death’.
Throughout that night, Mountjoy continued to send her unkind and menacing messages.
She expressed her wish not to have him join her at the festival the next day, though she saw him among the crowd.
She returned home around 11:30 pm but had trouble getting inside.
Once she managed to enter, Mountjoy assaulted her, hitting her face multiple times.
He then knocked her over and began strangling her.
The woman was taken to University Hospital of Wales, where she was treated for bruises, a cut on her face, and tenderness in her neck and finger.
She was still receiving medical care, with possible nerve and tear duct damage diagnosed.
In court, her statement highlighted the significant impact on her and her family.
Mountjoy, 47, residing in Bristol, admitted to charges including assault causing actual bodily harm, deliberate strangulation, and malicious communications.
He had a prior conviction for battery from December 2016, which was also linked to domestic violence.
Defense solicitor Harry Baker noted that this incident marked a worsening pattern but mentioned that probation assessed Mountjoy as low risk for re-offending.
Since his arrest, Mountjoy had been out on bail without further incidents.
The judge sentenced him to two years and three months in prison, along with a five-year restraining order preventing contact with his ex-partner.
