STUART MORTIMER FROM BRACKNELL AND CHERTSEY SENTENCED FOR SERIAL SEXUAL ABUSE IN SURREY AND BERKSHIRE

In a harrowing case that has shocked the communities of Chertsey and Bracknell, Stuart Mortimer, aged 48, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences involving children and an adult woman. The court proceedings, held at Guildford Crown Court, revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse spanning over a decade, highlighting Mortimer’s status as a serial sexual predator.

Mortimer admitted to four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault against a girl under the age of 13 during his court appearance on Friday, October 31. The charges detailed a series of heinous acts, with two of the rape allegations involving the same girl. The first incident occurred in 1992 when the victim was approximately 11 or 12 years old, and the second when she was 13. Additional rape charges involved an adult woman in 2005 and another girl, also aged 13 at the time, in the same year. The sexual assault charge pertained to an incident in 2006, involving a 10-year-old girl, who was Mortimer’s fourth victim.

Overall, Mortimer faced a total of 12 counts, but he admitted to five of the most severe charges, with the remaining charges being laid on file. Prosecutor Jonathan Davies highlighted the impact of Mortimer’s actions, revealing that one victim was still suffering from panic attacks caused by the abuse. Davies described Mortimer as a “serial sexual abuser of children,” with activity dating back to at least 1989, when he was approximately 23 years old, continuing into the mid-2000s when he was around 40.

During the court hearing, a victim impact statement from one of the girls, now a mother, was read aloud. The statement detailed how Mortimer had taken her virginity, and how the trauma had severely affected her adult life, including her relationship with her children. The judge, Neil Stewart, also read a statement from another victim, describing a “violent and horrific” rape. The court was told that the abuse had left lasting scars, with one victim stating she “could not feel love” and had struggled to cope with the aftermath of Mortimer’s actions.

In his defense, Janet Weeks, representing Mortimer, explained that her client had entered a guilty plea to all charges, aiming to bring closure and accept responsibility. She emphasized that Mortimer was a “very different” man today, now clean and sober after battling heroin and crack cocaine addiction, which she said contributed to his past offenses.

Judge Neil Stewart sentenced Mortimer to a total of 15 years in prison, with the sentences for the individual offences to run concurrently and consecutively. Specifically, he received 12 years for the first rape, nine years for the second, and seven years for the third, all reduced to eight years due to his early guilty pleas. For the fourth rape, Mortimer was sentenced to nine years, and for the sexual assault, two and a half years, both to run concurrently and reduced to seven years. The combined sentences will run consecutively, resulting in a substantial custodial period. Additionally, Mortimer, who was formerly residing in Bracknell and is now held at High Down Prison in Sutton, will serve an extended five-year period on license following his release.

Furthermore, Mortimer was subjected to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and a restraining order, which prohibit him from contacting or visiting the addresses of any of his victims, aiming to prevent further harm and protect the community.

In a related development from December 2013, authorities issued a public appeal to locate Mortimer, then aged 47, in connection with alleged historic sexual assaults in Chertsey. He was wanted for questioning regarding serious sex offences believed to have been committed in 2004 and 2005. Known to have links to Addlestone, Chertsey, and Bracknell, Mortimer’s whereabouts were sought as part of ongoing investigations into his past criminal activities.
