POLICE OFFICER WHO FLASHED WOMAN GETS COMMUNITY ORDER
A police officer who exposed himself to a woman on her doorstep while reportedly wearing an old-fashioned police cape has been spared jail.Stuart Moore, 53, was convicted of indecent exposure and a separate charge of sexual assault after a trial.
He received a three-year community order and was placed on the sex offender's register for five years.
Bradford Crown Court was told Moore was in a 'dark and lonely place' when he committed these offences in 2015.
The Huddersfield Daily Examiner reported that he had been wearing 'an old-fashioned policeman's cape' at the time.
Moore, from Huddersfield, claimed he made 'a mistake', while the woman involved, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, described him as 'creepy' and said the trial was embarrassing and very stressful.
Additionally, Moore was found guilty of touching another woman on the bottom during a walk, an incident he denied.
Both offences occurred while Moore was off duty in the autumn.
Moore has since been suspended by West Yorkshire Police.
During sentencing, Judge David Hatton described Moore as usually a man of impeccable character who had led a blameless life until these offences, which he committed during a period of dependence on alcohol following a serious accident.
The judge noted that Moore caused 'considerable anxiety and distress,' and his career and family life have been severely impacted.
Moore has been in rehab since autumn.
The head of West Yorkshire Police's Professional Standards Department emphasized that breaches of trust by officers are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
Moore remains suspended pending misconduct proceedings.
