STUART JUBBIE OF SOUTH NORMANTON SENT TO PRISON FOR GROOMING AND SEXUAL ADVANCEMENT OF TEENAGE GIRL

In January 2020, a disturbing case emerged involving Stuart Jubbie, a resident of South Normanton, who was found guilty of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a minor. The incident came to light after Jubbie, aged 47, engaged in a series of increasingly inappropriate and predatory communications with a girl he believed to be 14 years old.

According to reports presented at Derby Crown Court, Jubbie initiated contact with the girl through WhatsApp, and over the course of just over a week, the pair exchanged more than 200 messages. Initially, the conversations appeared innocent, with no immediate indication of the sinister intentions that would later be revealed. However, as the messages progressed, Jubbie began to ask invasive questions about the girl’s body, including her breast size and what she was wearing at the time.

Prosecutor Sarah Slater detailed how Jubbie sent the girl two explicit photographs of his genitals and inquired whether she had any photographs of herself. He also expressed a desire to meet her in person, explicitly stating his wish to have full sexual intercourse with her, as well as to kiss and touch her breasts. The girl, who was actually a self-styled paedophile hunter, responded by asking if he would meet her, but Jubbie initially got cold feet, fearing he was being set up, and failed to show up for the arranged meeting.

Despite this, Jubbie agreed to meet her a second time. However, this second encounter never materialized because the girl, who was undercover, arrived at his home in South Normanton and live-streamed the confrontation online, exposing his intentions to the authorities. Following this, Jubbie was arrested and taken into custody.

During police interviews, Jubbie initially chose to remain silent, offering a “no comment” response. Nevertheless, he later pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempting to meet a girl under 16 following grooming, attempting to cause a child to view sexual images, and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. It was noted that Jubbie had no prior criminal convictions.

Judge Robert Egbuna sentenced Jubbie to a year in prison, condemning his actions as deeply inappropriate and predatory. In his remarks, the judge emphasized the severity of Jubbie’s conduct, stating, “What you did was to look for someone you believed was 14 and on at least three occasions you sent her photographs of your private parts. You are in your 40s, you asked her to send a picture of herself pushing her breasts into her face. You asked her to kiss them, your intention was clear and that was to engage in full sex with this girl.”

Judge Egbuna further pointed out that the extensive conversations, which spanned more than 200 pages, directly contradicted Jubbie’s claims in his pre-sentence report that he had no interest in young girls. The judge concluded with a stern warning that such behavior warrants imprisonment, underscoring the seriousness with which the court views attempts to exploit minors for sexual purposes.
