DARLINGTON MAN STUART BELL JAILED FOR HARASSMENT AND STALKING EX-PARTNER
A man named Stuart Bell, aged 51, from North Road, Darlington, has been sentenced to four years and four months in prison for a series of criminal acts that severely impacted his ex-partner.
Bell pleaded guilty to stalking, breaching a restraining order, forgery, and perverting the course of justice.
The court heard that he had forged his former partner's signature by creating a fake email account and sending documents about the transfer of her housing assets to a solicitor, which he then signed in her name and sent back.
Despite a restraining order against him, Bell continued to harass and stalk her, bombarding her with abusive and degrading messages, taunting her about selling their Mercedes vehicle, which they had agreed to hand over as part of their separation arrangement.
The harassment and stalking behavior persisted for about three years following their breakup in May 2020.
The victim described how her ex-partner's conduct made her feel worthless and caused her to contemplate suicide; she was prescribed medication to help her cope.
The court also noted that Bell had tried to involve his nephew in sending the threatening messages, worsening the situation.
Supporters of Bell expressed anger at the length of his sentence as he was taken away to the cells.
Judge Chris Smith emphasized how Bell's actions led to the victim feeling helpless and suicidal, highlighting the severity of his offenses.
