STEVE SPENCER'S SHOCKING DELIVERY IN CHIPPENHAM AND MALMESBURY SPARKS OUTRAGE
In a disturbing incident that has caused widespread concern, convicted paedophile Steven Spencer was allowed to make a delivery to a nursery in Corsham, despite his criminal background. Spencer, who is employed at Sainsbury's located on Bath Road in Chippenham, was seen delivering food to Snapdragons Nursery situated in Pound Pill this week. The event took place on a day that has raised serious questions about the safety protocols in place at the supermarket and the oversight of employees with known criminal histories.Following the delivery, Spencer was promptly suspended from his position at Sainsbury's on Wednesday night. The supermarket chain has initiated a comprehensive investigation to determine how Spencer was permitted to come into contact with children, especially given his past convictions. The incident has ignited outrage among parents and community members who are concerned about the safety of children in the area.
Steven Spencer, aged 35, is a former scout leader from Pink Lane, Charlton, near Malmesbury. His criminal record includes admitting to hoarding hundreds of images depicting children, a serious offense that led to his sentencing last July. He received a suspended prison sentence and was placed on the sex offenders' register, yet he was still able to access environments where children are present, raising questions about the effectiveness of monitoring and restrictions.
A spokesperson for Sainsbury's expressed regret over the incident, stating, "Specific instructions to ensure this colleague would not be near children were not followed. Although he was accompanied at all times by another colleague, it is totally unacceptable. He is not at work while we carry out a complete investigation." The supermarket chain has emphasized that Spencer is currently not working as the investigation unfolds.
In response to the incident, Michele Elliot, representing the charity Kidscape, voiced her outrage, saying, "It makes my blood boil." Her comments reflect the deep concern about safeguarding and the potential risks posed by allowing individuals with criminal backgrounds to interact with children.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Snapdragons Nursery reassured the public about their safety measures, stating, "In terms of safety at Snapdragons, we are entirely satisfied with our security arrangements. The children are heavily supervised at all times without exception." Despite this assurance, the incident has cast a shadow over the nursery's safety protocols and prompted calls for stricter oversight of individuals with criminal histories working in environments with vulnerable children.
