In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Gloucester, a young man named Steven Marwick has been convicted and sentenced for engaging in a sexual act with a 13-year-old girl in his back garden. Further troubling details emerged when, on Bonfire Night, Marwick sent the girl a late-night text message. In this message, he expressed concern about their secret relationship, stating, “people can’t know about us – sorry,” and added, “you are the only one my eyes are on,” along with a plea to “make sure you delete this.” Despite his instructions, the girl did not delete the message, and her mother later discovered it. Her mother’s concern grew when she learned about the nature of the communication and Marwick’s age.

As suspicion mounted, Marwick’s actions drew police attention. When he realized law enforcement was investigating him, he was in Leeds and chose to surrender himself to authorities. His decision to hand himself in was a significant development in the case, which had already caused considerable distress within the community.

During the trial, Marwick’s defense lawyer, Steve Young, argued that his client was of previously good character and that there was no indication of a predatory or dangerous nature in his background. Young emphasized that Marwick had developed genuine affection for the girl but had failed to understand the boundaries of their relationship.

However, the judge, Hart, was clear in his sentencing. He pointed out that as an adult, Marwick had a moral and legal obligation to resist engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
