STEVEN CHARLES ROWE, 49, SENTENCED FOR STALKING AND ASSAULT
A MAN whose string of crimes included stalking a woman and beating her twice as well as criminal damage has appeared in court for sentencing.Steven Charles Rowe, aged 49, of Tregarrek Close in Roche, near St Dennis, appeared at Truro Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 31 January on one count of stalking without fear or alarm or distress, two counts of assault by beating, and one count of criminal damage under £5,000.
The offences first took place on October 28 2022 when Rowe assaulted a female victim at her home address by beating her.
Then, almost a month to the day later, he returned to the victim’s home and damaged stair spindles to the value of £1000 by intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged.
On the same day, he assaulted her for a second time by beating her.
Then, between December 1 and 21, Rowe pursued a course of conduct which amounted to the stalking of the same female victim and which he knew or ought to have known amounted to the harassment of her in that he sent her unwanted text messages, flowers, attended places where he believed she may be, or knew where she was and sent messages indicating that he knew where she was.
Rowe pleaded guilty to all four charges.
During his sentencing, Rowe was made the subject of a community order under which he must take part in a rehabilitation activity for a maximum of 45 days as well as carry out unpaid work for 200 hours within the next twelve months.
Rowe was also made the subject of a restraining order under which prohibits him from attending the victim’s address or place of work and lasts for two years.
He was also made to pay compensation of £700 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £140 as well as pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
The court noted that Rowe’s guilty pleas had been taken into account when imposing the sentence.
