STEVEN ALDUS FROM TEYNHAM JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN MAIDSTONE

In a case that has shocked the local community of Teynham, Steven Aldus, a man in his late forties, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for engaging in sexual activities with a teenage girl aged just 15. The incident came to light after the victim’s mother discovered explicit text messages exchanged between Aldus and her daughter, leading to a police investigation that uncovered further disturbing details.

According to Maidstone Crown Court, Aldus, who resided in a caravan at The Stables, Barrow Green, Teynham, had developed a relationship with the young girl that involved multiple sexual encounters. Prosecutor Robin Sellers revealed that Aldus had engaged in sexual intercourse with the girl on four separate occasions. These acts were confirmed after her mother found the incriminating texts, which prompted authorities to take action.

During the court proceedings, it was noted that a grooming charge was considered against Aldus; however, it was ultimately not included in the formal indictment. The case focused primarily on the sexual activity, which Aldus admitted to, although he claimed he met the girl in an orchard rather than through any grooming process.

Defense lawyer Leslie Manley argued that her client, who admitted to having sexual relations with a minor, was reluctant to accept that their relationship was sexual in nature. She emphasized that there was no concrete evidence to prove coercion or unwillingness on the part of the girl, suggesting that the case against Aldus might not have been entirely watertight.

Ms. Manley also highlighted Aldus’s personal circumstances, describing him as a lonely individual who lives with animals and has lost his home due to the legal proceedings. She expressed concern about the stigma attached to his conviction and the uncertain future awaiting him upon release.

Judge Cairns Nelson QC acknowledged that the offense was aggravated by the significant age difference between Aldus and the victim. As part of his sentence, Aldus was subject to a sexual offences prevention order, and his name will be entered onto the sex offenders’ register, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.

This case underscores the serious nature of sexual offenses involving minors and the legal system’s commitment to protecting vulnerable young individuals from exploitation and abuse.
