STEPHEN RUMENS FROM STANHOPE SENTENCED FOR VOYEURISM IN ASHFORD
Further convictions have now came to light regarding Stephen Rumen's sexual offending.
According to an anonymous source he was jailed for 18 months in the 1990s for sexual abuse against a 10 year old child within the family setting.
In June 2007, Stephen Rumens, a 37-year-old resident of Newenden Close in Stanhope, faced legal proceedings at Ashford Magistrates’ Court following his admission to charges of voyeurism.
The case drew attention due to Rumens’ prior criminal history and the nature of the offence.
Rumens, who has previously served time in prison in 1996 for the indecent assault of young girls, was sentenced to a community order that will last for three years.
This order signifies a period during which he must comply with certain conditions set by the court, aimed at monitoring and rehabilitating him.
As part of his sentencing, Rumens was ordered to pay a total of £150 in compensation to the victim, along with £43 in court costs.
Additionally, he is mandated to participate in a sex offender group programme, which is designed to address and manage his behaviour and prevent future offences.
Furthermore, Rumens will be registered on the sex offenders’ register for a period of five years, a measure intended to facilitate ongoing monitoring and community safety.
His appearance at Ashford Magistrates’ Court marked a significant moment in the ongoing efforts to address sexual offences and protect the public from repeat offenders.
