RHO'S STEPHEN ROGERS SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE IN WREXHAM

In December 2012, Stephen Rogers, a 47-year-old man from Rhos, near Wrexham, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 12 years after admitting to multiple serious sexual offences involving children. The case, heard at Mold Crown Court, revealed a disturbing pattern of criminal behavior that shocked the local community and highlighted the severity of his crimes.

Rogers pleaded guilty to a total of 28 charges, which included the rape and attempted rape of a minor. During the court proceedings, Rogers expressed a disturbing sentiment, asking the police, "When did I turn into a monster?" His words underscored the gravity of his actions and his apparent remorse, although the court recognized the depraved nature of his conduct. Judge Merfyn Hughes described Rogers' behavior as "depraved," emphasizing the serious breach of trust and the harm inflicted upon his victims.

The court was informed that Rogers had shown one of his victims indecent images on a computer and had asked her if he could do the same to her. Another victim recounted how Rogers attempted to persuade her to engage in sexual activity, further illustrating the predatory nature of his offenses. The judge noted that these acts were committed for Rogers' own sexual gratification, a factor that contributed to the severity of his sentence.

During police interviews, Rogers admitted to his misconduct, stating, "Nothing I say will excuse the things I’ve done. I want to be put away for a long time." His candid admissions and the evidence presented in court painted a disturbing picture of a man who had exploited and harmed vulnerable children.

Stephen Edwards, representing Rogers, claimed that his client was full of remorse for his actions. Despite this, the court ordered Rogers to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.

Prior to his sentencing, Rogers was remanded in custody, with Judge Rhys Rowlands emphasizing the need for a pre-sentence report to evaluate the potential risk he posed to society. The judge underscored the seriousness of the charges, stating that the only remaining question was the length of the prison sentence, which was ultimately set at 12 years. This case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of sexual crimes against children and the importance of justice in safeguarding vulnerable members of society.
