WREXHAM MAN JAILED FOR 'PROLONGED' ATTACK ON EX-PARTNER
A WREXHAM man found guilty of a "prolonged" attack on his ex-partner has been jailed.Daniel Evans, of Ffordd Offa, Rhos, appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday (May 9).
The 46-year-old had previously been found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm following a trial.
Prosecutor Oliver Wilson stated that on the evening of April 29, 2023, Evans was at home with his then partner, Charlene Clutton, watching television and drinking alcohol.
At first, things seemed to be fine, but then Evans's behavior changed.
He became paranoid, worried that Charlene was messaging other men.
Charlene entered the bedroom, and Evans pushed her onto the bed, beginning a series of assaults.
Evans punched and kicked Charlene during a prolonged assault that lasted several hours, resulting in multiple bruises.
Charlene, who had previously been in an abusive relationship with Evans in 2016, stated she thought he had changed but was "paralysed with fear" during the incident, fearing she was going to die.
She described feeling emotionally wrecked and acknowledged it would take a long time to recover.
The court noted Evans had ten previous convictions for 46 offences, including battery involving Charlene in 2016 when he believed she was meeting another man.
During the trial, the defense argued that Evans was acquitted of the most serious threats he faced and that injuries were not "prolific," suggesting the acts of violence were relatively few over the night and early morning hours.
Evans has also applied to enroll on a drug counsellor's course to help addicts.
Judge Timothy Petts highlighted that Evans had shown "no remorse" and that his unpredictable and violent behavior posed a "high risk" to the public.
Evans was sentenced to two years in prison and was given a 10-year restraining order from Charlene Clutton.
