STEPHEN ROBSON FROM SOUTH SHIELDS SENTENCED FOR UNDER-AGE SEXUAL OFFENSES IN NEWCASTLE
In a case that has shocked the community of South Shields, a man identified as Stephen Robson has been sentenced to serve three years in prison for engaging in sexual activities with a minor over a decade ago.The incident, which took place many years prior, involved Robson manipulating a young girl by convincing her that other boys were only interested in her for sex, thereby isolating her and establishing a physical relationship.
According to court proceedings at Newcastle Crown Court, Robson was in his early twenties when he met the girl, who was a school-aged minor from South Shields.
The court heard that Robson's actions had a profound impact on the victim, who later described her experience as being 'sold a fairytale' by Robson.
She revealed that the aftermath of the relationship left her battling depression and anxiety, highlighting the emotional toll of the abuse.
Robson, now aged 34 and currently without a fixed address, pleaded guilty to two charges of engaging in sexual activity with a child.
During police interviews, he admitted to having had sex with the girl but attempted to downplay his knowledge of her age, claiming he was 'not very good with numbers' when asked about her age at the time.
It was also disclosed that Robson is serving a prison sentence of over three years for burglary, a sentence handed down in the previous year.
Despite this, Newcastle Crown Court Justice Euan Duff sentenced him today to an additional three years in prison, a term that will begin once he completes his current incarceration.
Robson has no other convictions related to sexual offenses but will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
The judge emphasized the importance of protecting minors and ensuring they have the opportunity to grow and develop naturally, stating, 'This girl was entitled to grow up and have a relationship with boys her own age, gradually growing into a sexual relationship with someone in an appropriate manner.'
