STEPHEN POOLE OF COSELEY JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGE COLLECTION IN SANDWELL AND WOLVERHAMPTON

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of Coseley, Sandwell, and Wolverhampton, Stephen Poole, a 55-year-old resident of Oak Street in Coseley, has been found guilty of possessing and creating an extensive collection of child sexual abuse images. The investigation into Poole’s activities uncovered a horrifying cache of over 9,000 illicit images, which he had meticulously stored over a period spanning from October 2002 to May 2006.

Poole’s criminal actions came to light after authorities executed a raid on his residence in Lincoln Road, Smethwick, on May 17, following a credible tip-off. During the search, law enforcement officials discovered a significant amount of illegal material stored across multiple devices, including a computer tower, a laptop, a hard drive, and a USB stick. The police’s findings revealed that over 8,000 indecent images were present on these devices alone, with more than 800 classified as the most severe category of child pornography, indicating the most serious level of abuse.

The images depicted young boys and girls, some as young as infants and toddlers, while others were up to 17 years old. The disturbing collection also included 294 discs containing photographs and videos of children, further emphasizing the extent of Poole’s illicit activities. Prosecutor Mr. James Dunstan explained that the images were cataloged and, in some cases, accessible to other internet users, raising concerns about the potential distribution of this vile material.

Poole, who is a father of two sons, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent images of children and three counts of possessing such images. His guilty plea was entered before Wolverhampton Crown Court, where he faced justice for his heinous crimes. The court heard that Poole had created a substantial number of images, including 805 in the most serious Category A, 779 in Category B, and 6,600 in Category C. Additionally, he possessed 107 Category A images, 88 Category B images, and 650 Category C images, highlighting the scale of his illegal collection.

Following his arrest, Poole was granted bail under strict conditions, including a ban on unsupervised contact with children under 18, restrictions on employment or voluntary work involving children, and limitations on internet access, which was confined to public facilities such as libraries and job centers. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender, a legal requirement for individuals convicted of such crimes.

Judge Michael Challinor, presiding over the case at Wolverhampton Crown Court, announced that Poole’s sentencing would take place on December 9. The case has drawn significant attention due to the severity of the crimes and the potential risk posed to the community, especially given the disturbing nature of the images involved and the fact that Poole had previously been involved in similar offenses in the past.
