SHEFFIELD MAN JAILED FOR SPYING VIA HIDDEN CAMERA
A Sheffield man has been sentenced to prison for spying on a woman via a hidden camera.Stephen Lee, from Eastcroft Glen in Sheffield’s Westfield area, was given a 12-month prison sentence after admitting to charges of voyeurism.
He was arrested by South Yorkshire Police following his admission that he enjoyed the sensation of observing the woman, often dressed in underwear or completely nude, through a covert recording device.
Lee also attempted to pay the woman for sexual acts.
He appeared in Sheffield Crown Court on March 5, pleading guilty to voyeurism, and was subsequently sentenced on March 21 to serve one year in prison.
Alongside his jail term, he received a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and a 15-year restraining order that forbids him from making contact with the victim.
PC Amy Shore, who led the case, stated: "Lee violated the privacy of this young woman, wrongly believing he could secretly record her.
His conduct was both shocking and disturbing, and I can't begin to imagine her thoughts when she discovered what had been happening.
I want to acknowledge her strength in coming forward and reporting this.
I hope that the conviction, along with the restraining orders, will assist in her recovery from a potentially traumatic experience.
We handle these offences with utmost seriousness; victims are urged to report such crimes.
It is also important to note that sexual offence victims are granted lifelong anonymity, and South Yorkshire Police will act decisively to prevent their identification."
