COURT TOLD PADDOCK MAN THREATENED TO KILL AND EAT GAY LOVER
A man named Stephen Kelly was accused of sending a threatening letter that included plans to crucify and consume his former gay partner if he provided any testimony against him, the court revealed.Kelly, who formerly resided on Wren Street in Paddock, even mentioned he would decapitate his ex-boyfriend and send the head to his mother.
At the time, Kelly, 20 years old, was detained in Wakefield jail for attempting to murder his former partner, Paul Coombes, with a claw hammer.
The letter was sent to Mr.
Coombes’ apartment in Leeds, but authorities found Kelly’s fingerprints on it.
Kelly appeared before Leeds Crown Court to be sentenced after admitting to witness intimidation.
Judge Geoffrey Marson described the contents of the letters as “the most disturbing threats I have ever encountered.” Prosecutor Robert Skyner detailed that one letter included threats involving torture, violence, crucifixion, cannibalism, and death.
He also mentioned, “He said his head would be sent to his mother.” However, Mr.
Coombes, who was seriously injured during the attempted hammer attack last June, never received the letters because he was hospitalized at Pinderfields Hospital.
His carer discovered the correspondence and notified police.
Kelly is currently serving an indeterminate sentence, with a minimum term of six years, for attempted murder.
Mr.
Coombes, aged 55, sustained injuries so severe that one of his legs was shattered in three places and had to be amputated following the assault at his Leeds city center flat in June.
Previously, Leeds Crown Court was told that Kelly had moved in with Mr.
Coombes after his girlfriend evicted him.
The two had begun a sexual relationship, but Mr.
Coombes later requested him to leave.
When Kelly returned with a 15-year-old girl to the flat, Mr.
Coombes decided to ask him to leave.
He contacted the police, but was told it was a civil matter.
Kelly had overheard Mr.
Coombes making the call.
The teenage girl was asleep in another room; Kelly then woke her as he assaulted Mr.
Coombes, throwing him against the wall, over the sofa, and punching him.
Using a claw hammer, Kelly repeatedly struck Mr.
Coombes’s head, knees, and legs.
He later admitted to attempted murder.
On Wednesday, Judge Marson sentenced Kelly to an additional 12 months in prison, which will run concurrently with his existing sentence.
The judge remarked, “Your release is likely to be many years away.
The parole board will consider this offence when deciding if and when you might be released.”
