STEPHEN HAMILTON FROM ALTRINCHAM AND BOLTON JAILED FOR HORRIFIC SEX OFFENCES IN BOLTON

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Bolton and Altrincham, Dr. Stephen Hamilton has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of a series of heinous sexual offenses involving a young girl. The gravity of his crimes and the betrayal of trust placed in him as a medical professional have led to his immediate removal from the medical register and a lifetime ban from practicing medicine.

Hamilton, aged 47 and residing on Gaskell Street in Altrincham, was found guilty last year at Manchester Crown Court of multiple counts of sexual assault, including rape, against a vulnerable girl under the age of 13. The court heard that he committed these acts while working as a general practitioner at Bolton’s Heaton Medical Centre. The details of his misconduct are particularly disturbing, with evidence revealing that he subjected the girl to repeated assaults, including rapes and other degrading acts, over an extended period.

During the trial, the prosecution described how Hamilton would often threaten and manipulate his young victim, controlling her through intimidation and false promises. It was reported that he would sometimes strangle her until she lost consciousness during the abuse, call her derogatory names, and falsely blame her for the incidents. The court was told that Hamilton sought to isolate the girl, warning her that if she ever disclosed the abuse, he would fabricate stories to prove she was mentally ill, thus silencing her.

The case also revealed that Hamilton’s actions extended over a period, with the girl feeling increasingly trapped and unable to escape the cycle of abuse until she finally decided to come forward in 2011, seeking justice. Despite his claims during the trial that the girl had fabricated her allegations and that the abuse never occurred, the jury was convinced of his guilt after hearing extensive evidence of his misconduct.

Throughout the proceedings, Hamilton maintained his innocence, denying all charges and attempting to appeal his conviction. He is currently seeking to lodge an appeal with the Supreme Court, claiming that there was a conspiracy against him and that his sentence should be reduced. However, the prosecution’s representative, Alan Taylor, emphasized the severity of Hamilton’s crimes, describing them as among the worst a registered medical professional can commit. Taylor also highlighted Hamilton’s apparent lack of remorse, which the court considered a significant aggravating factor.

Following his conviction, the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service took decisive action, stripping Hamilton of his medical license and banning him from practicing medicine in the future. The tribunal’s chairman, John Donnelly, stated that removing Hamilton from the medical register was the only way to protect the public from such a dangerous individual. The tribunal emphasized that the nature of his crimes was particularly egregious, and his conduct had severely damaged public trust in the medical profession.

In addition to his current imprisonment, Hamilton’s previous conviction in May 2013 for raping an 11-year-old girl resulted in an 18-year jail sentence. That case also involved multiple counts of child cruelty, rape, and sexual assault, all of which he denied. The jury in that case found him guilty after a four-week trial, during which evidence was presented of his controlling and abusive behavior towards the young victim. The court heard that Hamilton would threaten the girl, call her derogatory names, and blame her for the abuse, further illustrating the extent of his manipulative tactics.

Despite his tearful demeanor during parts of the trial, the court was told that Hamilton’s actions caused incalculable harm to his victims. The judge overseeing his case made it clear that his conduct was among the worst imaginable for a medical professional, and the decision to erase his name from the medical register was made to prevent him from harming others in the future.
