STEPHEN CUMMING FROM ILKESTON ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES IN NOTTINGHAM
In a case that has shocked the local community of Ilkeston, Stephen Cumming, a 46-year-old man residing on Laneward Close, was brought before Nottingham Crown Court in late November 2017 to face serious allegations related to child exploitation and extreme pornography.The court proceedings revealed that Cumming had admitted to multiple charges, including three counts of creating indecent images of a child and one count of possessing extreme pornographic material.
These allegations stemmed from a police investigation that involved a detailed search of his residence, during which authorities seized computer equipment and storage devices.
The police found more than 200 indecent images depicting children, alongside 84 images classified as extreme pornography.
These findings painted a disturbing picture of the material stored on his devices, raising significant concerns about the potential harm and exploitation involved.
During the hearing, Judge Timothy Spencer QC addressed Cumming directly, expressing his disbelief and frustration at the case.
He remarked, “Stephen Cumming, this is madness.
You are a respectable married man with a family who clearly care for you.” The judge’s words underscored the stark contrast between Cumming’s apparent personal life and the serious nature of his offenses.
Despite the gravity of the charges, the judge decided against imposing immediate imprisonment.
Instead, he sentenced Cumming to eight months in prison, but this sentence was suspended for one year, meaning Cumming would not serve time unless he committed another offense within that period.
Additionally, Cumming was ordered to comply with a sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his access to certain online content and prevent further offenses.
He was also mandated to register as a sex offender for the next five years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and community safety.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of illegal and harmful images, and it serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
