STEPHEN CLEVERLEY SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN MEASHAM AND ASHBY

In a significant development in the fight against child sexual abuse, Stephen Cleverley, a resident of Dysons Close in Measham, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 18 years. The conviction follows a detailed investigation into allegations of prolonged sexual misconduct involving two young victims, with the offences spanning over a decade from 1997 to 2008 in the areas of Ashby and Measham.

These disturbing crimes came to light after the victims, demonstrating remarkable bravery, chose to come forward and report their experiences. Their courage in revealing the abuse played a crucial role in bringing Cleverley to justice. The case was heard at Leicester Crown Court, where the evidence presented led to his conviction on 11 counts, including charges of rape and indecent assault. The severity of the charges underscores the gravity of the offences committed by Cleverley during this period.

Detective Constable Andy Spence of Leicestershire Police, who led the investigation, expressed his commendation for the victims' bravery. He stated, “Cleverley has been found guilty of sexually abusing two children over a long period of time. Both victims showed tremendous courage in coming forward and reporting this man. I want to praise them not only for this but also for coming to court and giving evidence against him. Hopefully, the victims and their families are able to start new chapters in their lives knowing that the man that hurt them is starting a lengthy prison sentence.”

Following the conviction, authorities are actively seeking to identify any additional victims who may have been targeted by Cleverley. Detective Constable Spence emphasized that there could be other individuals who have yet to come forward, noting, “There is a possibility that Cleverley may have committed other crimes which may not have been reported to the police. We know it’s not always easy to report a crime of this nature, but we would like to reassure people that we have specialist officers and access to a number of partner agencies who can help and support them.”
