SOUTHPORT MAN SENTENCED FOR FIRE-STARTING ASSAULT ON GIRLFRIEND'S HOME
A man identified as Stephen Buckley, aged 36, has been sentenced to four years and seven months in prison for deliberately setting a fire in his girlfriend's house in Newton-le-Willows on December 20, 2022.
According to Merseyside Police, Buckley started the blaze close to a gas and electrical mains box within the home and then fled the scene.
The incident put the lives of his girlfriend and her daughter at serious risk.
Fortunately, the occupants managed to escape unharmed, though they were left shaken.
Buckley admitted to arson charges and was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court.
The police emphasized that his actions were highly reckless and dangerous, risking harm not only to the residents but also to neighboring properties.
Det Ch Insp Allison Woods condemned the act as utterly appalling, highlighting that it was only by good fortune that everyone escaped uninjured.
The case underscores the danger posed by deliberate fires and the importance of holding offenders accountable.
