STEPHEN BLACKBURN FROM WEST KIRBY ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SHOCKING SHOWER VIDEO INCIDENT IN LIVERPOOL
In September 2018, a deeply disturbing case unfolded involving Stephen Blackburn, a resident of West Kirby, who was accused of a heinous invasion of privacy against a young girl.Blackburn, aged 63, was caught secretly filming an innocent girl while she was taking a shower, an act described by prosecutors as a 'monstrous violation' of her personal space and dignity.
Blackburn’s actions came to light when the girl, who was under his observation, noticed his mobile phone was set to record during her shower.
This discovery prompted her to report her suspicions, leading to a police investigation.
The victim later confided in a counselor, expressing her belief that Blackburn had secretly filmed her, which added gravity to the case.
When law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Blackburn’s residence on Broughton Avenue in West Kirby, they seized his Samsung Galaxy S7 smartphone.
A detailed examination of the device revealed a nearly 20-minute video depicting the girl in the shower, a finding that confirmed the allegations against him.
The police also uncovered additional material, including two Category B still images, which are considered less serious but still indicative of inappropriate conduct.
During his initial police interview, Blackburn chose to remain silent, denying any involvement or wrongdoing.
However, he later admitted to taking indecent photographs of a child, specifically referencing the video that was classified as Category C, the least severe category of such offenses.
He also denied possessing other indecent photographs of a child, leading to the charge being dropped from the case.
Despite the evidence, Blackburn maintained his innocence during the proceedings.
His partner stood by him throughout, even after learning of the disturbing nature of his crime.
The public gallery was notably supportive, with more than half a dozen spectators celebrating when Blackburn was sentenced to a suspended prison term.
Judge Steven Everett, presiding over the case, warned Blackburn that prison was a real possibility and ordered a pre-sentence report to better understand his motives.
The judge emphasized the severity of the act, stating, 'Videoing this girl in the shower is a despicable act.' In sentencing, Judge Conrad acknowledged the impact on the victim, who was undergoing counseling and seeing her general practitioner.
He described the incident as a 'monstrous violation' of her privacy and expressed sympathy for her ordeal.
Blackburn was sentenced to 15 months in prison, suspended for two years, and was also ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work and attend a 45-day rehabilitation course.
Additionally, he was mandated to sign the Sex Offenders Register and adhere to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years.
The judge issued a stern warning, stating, 'You have come very close to going to prison.
If you breach the order in any way, you will go to prison.' The case underscores the serious consequences of such invasive and criminal acts, highlighting the importance of safeguarding victims and holding offenders accountable.
