In a case that has shocked the local community of Combs, Stanley Blatchford, aged 68, has been sentenced to prison for the sexual abuse of a young schoolboy. The incident, which occurred over a decade ago, has finally come to light, leading to a conviction that underscores the seriousness of the allegations.Blatchford, a resident of Bildeston Road in Combs, faced five counts of indecent assault. Despite initially denying the charges, he was found guilty by a jury at Ipswich Crown Court on a Monday following a detailed trial. The court's decision resulted in Blatchford being sentenced to six years behind bars. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender, a standard requirement for individuals convicted of such offences.
The prosecution presented evidence that the victim, who was between 13 and 15 years old at the time, had been subjected to inappropriate conduct while visiting a mobile home owned by Blatchford. The alleged abuse took place between the years 2001 and 2004, a period during which the victim was vulnerable and impressionable. The court heard that Blatchford, who was in his early 50s during the time of the offences, had engaged in a series of inappropriate acts.
Prosecutor Katherine Davey outlined that Blatchford had allowed the boy to play computer games during visits, which was part of his grooming process. It was also claimed that Blatchford showed the boy pornographic magazines, further exploiting the young boy’s trust and innocence. The victim recounted that Blatchford had told him that if he said ‘no’ three times, the assaults would cease. However, despite the boy’s repeated refusals, the abuse continued, and his protests were ignored.
Following his arrest, Blatchford maintained his innocence, denying any inappropriate behaviour towards the boy. The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Combs, highlighting the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable individuals from such predatory conduct.
