SPENCER COOK FROM FELIXSTOWE SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES AND PHOTOGRAPHY
In a case that has shocked the community of Felixstowe, Spencer Cook, a 36-year-old bus driver, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 16 years after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses involving young girls. The crimes, which took place in and around Felixstowe, included the sexual abuse of two schoolgirls, as well as the production and distribution of indecent images and videos.According to court proceedings at Ipswich Crown Court, Cook engaged in a disturbing pattern of abuse that involved taking approximately 700 photographs of one of the victims while he was sexually assaulting her. In addition to the photographs, he recorded an indecent video of another girl, further compounding the severity of his crimes. The court heard that Cook had also committed a rape against one of the victims, and he was found guilty of voyeurism after peeping at a third schoolgirl without her knowledge as she was heading to the toilet.
Cook, who resides on Larkhill Way in Felixstowe, admitted to a series of charges that included two counts of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, three counts of sexually assaulting a girl under 13, three counts of assault by penetration of a child under 13, and the heinous act of rape. His offenses also encompassed taking indecent videos and photographs of children, as well as making and possessing indecent images of minors. The court also found him guilty of voyeurism, highlighting the breadth of his criminal behavior.
During sentencing, Judge David Goodin acknowledged Cook’s acceptance of responsibility and noted that he had expressed “deeply-felt remorse” in a letter to the court. The judge remarked, “I have no doubt that you are filled with self-disgust. The more disgraceful and disgusting the offenses, the more difficult it is to admit them.” Despite the remorse, the judge emphasized the gravity of the crimes and the need for public protection.
In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Goodin imposed a sexual offences prevention order on Cook and mandated that he register as a sex offender indefinitely. The court heard that Cook had manipulated and groomed the victims to keep silent about the abuse, further illustrating the calculated nature of his actions. It was also revealed that Cook had uploaded images of one of the girls—images that were not indecent—onto a Russian website known for hosting child abuse imagery, where users could comment and share content.
The case came to light after police officers, acting on information obtained through internet investigations, executed a search warrant at Cook’s home. During the search, they seized his computer equipment, which led to the discovery of the illicit images and videos. The police investigation uncovered the extent of Cook’s offending, revealing a disturbing pattern of exploitation and abuse that has left a lasting impact on the victims and the community of Felixstowe.
