In the moments leading up to a fatal accident, Sophie Waugh was found to have been persistently posting on social media.
She then collided with Ian Morris, a beloved grandfather, who was riding his bicycle.
At 31 years old, Waugh was still serving in the military at the time of the crash.
She was formerly of Longleat Gardens in South Shields and later lived on Broadway West in Dormanstown, Redcar.
She was driving a Ford Focus that veered into the path of Mr Morris, striking him from behind.
This incident occurred at approximately 2:15 pm on June 28, 2023, on the A6055 near Thirsk, North Yorkshire.
She received a sentence of six years and eight months imprisonment at Teesside Crown Court after admitting to causing the death of Mr Morris through dangerous driving.
