SOPHIE ESNEE FROM KINGSTON UPON HULL FACES JUSTICE FOR ANIMAL NEGLECT AND ASSAULTS
Sophie Esnee, a resident of Belmont Street in Kingston upon Hull, became the subject of legal action after a series of troubling incidents involving her treatment of animals and her conduct towards others.In 2019, Esnee was convicted of neglecting her pet snake, Lucifer, and of throwing the reptile at her neighbor, actions that drew the attention of local authorities and animal welfare organizations.
Esnee, known for her history of troublemaking and alleged drug use, was fined £100 and received a ban from keeping reptiles for a period of seven years.
This penalty was specifically related to her failure to provide a suitable living environment for Lucifer, which was deemed a violation of animal welfare standards.
The court's decision underscored the importance of proper care for pets and the consequences of neglecting such responsibilities.
Furthermore, Esnee faced additional charges stemming from an incident on February 12, 2018, on Estcourt Street, where she failed to protect Lucifer from pain, suffering, injury, and disease.
During this incident, she reportedly took the snake out on a cold February evening and threw it at another person, an act that was considered a serious breach of animal welfare laws.
Both of these offences were prosecuted under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and were proven in Esnee’s absence during her court appearance at Hull Magistrates’ Court.
As part of the court’s ruling, Lucifer was ordered to be taken into the care of the RSPCA, with the intention of rehoming the snake to ensure its well-being.
The case highlighted the importance of animal protection laws and the responsibilities of pet owners to ensure their animals are cared for properly.
In addition to her animal-related offences, Esnee’s criminal record includes a series of other charges.
In May 2019, she was convicted of damaging a wooden door belonging to a pizza restaurant, assaulting a police constable by beating, possessing cannabis, and assault by beating.
These offences resulted in a combined fine of £280, which covered fines, costs, and charges.
The court also imposed a ban on her from keeping reptiles for seven years, with the possibility of appealing after five years, a restriction set to expire in July 2026.
Throughout these proceedings, Esnee’s actions have drawn significant attention from local media and law enforcement, emphasizing the ongoing issues related to animal welfare and public safety in Kingston upon Hull.
