GROOM SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ASSAULT DURING HONEYMOON
Sonny Parker, a 39-year-old groom described as 'jealous and obsessive,' was sentenced to prison after violently attacking his wife during their honeymoon. The court was told that Parker's anger erupted after their wedding photographer proposed a photograph of the bride with the best man shortly after the ceremony.
Prosecutor Oishee Dey explained that Parker argued with his wife and left the wedding early.
Although they had a brief reconciliation during their stay in Rhodes, Greece, tensions flared again when Parker accused her of infidelity.
He then assaulted her severely and threatened to throw her off a balcony at their hotel.
Following their separation, Parker harassed her with numerous calls and emails, leading to his arrest upon returning to the UK.
He pleaded guilty to charges of actual bodily harm and harassment without violence, receiving a 27-month prison sentence.
A lifetime restraining order was also issued to prevent him from contacting her in Leeds.
The judge, Mushtaq Khokhar, highlighted that the attack was driven by jealousy, obsessive behavior, and mistrust.
The assault involved punches, choking, and forceful wall slamming, which caused a head injury requiring medical attention.
Parker, originally from Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, has a criminal record that includes six convictions for seven offenses, including a robbery in 2003.
After arriving back in the UK on September 7 following their trip, he was detained by police.
Although released on bail with a strict condition not to contact the woman, he attempted to meet her at the airport immediately.
His threatening communications persisted from March, and his defense acknowledged their toxic relationship from the start, with Parker accepting responsibility during the hotel assault.
