SOLOMON IBUKUN ADEBIYI SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS IN PRISON FOR RAPE IN NORTHAMPTON

In a case that has shocked the Northampton community, two men accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl have each been handed a 14-year prison sentence. The incident, which took place in the early hours of March 12, 2022, involved a brutal series of rapes committed above the Exotic Cuisine Restaurant located in Abington Square, Northampton.

One of the men, Tosin Dada, aged 34 and formerly residing on Knox Road, Wellingborough, was charged alongside Solomon Ibukun Adebiyi, who is 39 years old and previously lived on Stanley Street, Northampton. Both men faced three counts of rape each, stemming from the same distressing event. During the assault, the young victim repeatedly begged the perpetrators to cease their actions, highlighting the severity and brutality of the attack.

Initially, both Dada and Adebiyi denied the allegations, claiming that the sexual encounters were consensual. However, after a thorough police investigation, the evidence led to their formal charges of three counts of rape each. The case proceeded to a nine-day trial at Northampton Crown Court in early September. After eight hours of deliberation, the jury unanimously found both men guilty on all charges.

Following the verdict, the defendants returned to Northampton Crown Court on November 29 for sentencing. The court sentenced each man to 14 years in prison, reflecting the gravity of their crimes. The sentencing has been met with relief from law enforcement and the community, who have expressed their support for justice being served.

Detective Sergeant Andrea Taylor, the lead investigator in the case, commented on the complexity of the investigation and the significance of the jury’s verdict. She praised the bravery of the young girl, who endured the assault and later supported the police investigation and court proceedings. Sergeant Taylor emphasized that her courage was instrumental in ensuring that the perpetrators are now facing long-term imprisonment, preventing them from harming others in the future.
