CARDIFF MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OF TEENAGE GIRL
A man sexually abused a teenage girl after laying on top of her and kissing her on the stomach.He denied the offence but was found guilty following a trial.Sion Butcher, 37, of Gabalfa, Cardiff, sexually assaulted his victim, who was between 15 and 16 years old at the time.
The victim described feeling "scared" and "unable to say no" during the incident.
The court heard that at the Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, Butcher laid on top of her and kissed her stomach without her consent.
The victim managed to persuade him she needed the toilet, which led to him kissing her and attempting to pull down her trousers.
Despite denying the sexual assault, Butcher was convicted by a jury.Prosecutor Byron Broadstock stated that after his arrest, Butcher maintained his innocence.
The court was told that he has previous convictions, although none related to sexual offenses.
The sentencing hearing resulted in Judge Paul Hobson sentencing Butcher to two years imprisonment.
However, due to his time spent on remand, he is likely to be released immediately.
As part of his sentence, he was also placed under a restraining order for five years and sex offender notification requirements for ten years.
