SIMON WHITTAKER FROM DENBIGH FOUND GUILTY OF SEX CRIMES INVOLVING CHILDREN AND ADULT VICTIMS

In June 2014, a man named Simon John Whittaker, hailing from Denbigh, was formally convicted of multiple serious sexual offences and subsequently remanded in custody. The case, heard at Mold Crown Court, revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse involving both children and adult women.

Whittaker, a former circus worker, faced allegations of committing 13 separate offences against two victims. Although he denied all charges, the court found him guilty of 10 counts, which included indecent assault, acts of indecency with a child, and sexual assault. The verdict came after a detailed examination of the evidence presented by the prosecution.

The court heard harrowing testimony from one woman who recounted being sexually assaulted by Whittaker many years earlier when she was a child. It was only after a more recent complaint from a young girl, who claimed that Whittaker had similarly abused her, that the victim decided to come forward and make a formal statement. This revelation prompted a renewed investigation into Whittaker’s past actions.

Further complicating the case was the discovery that Whittaker had prior convictions related to sexual offences. Prosecuting barrister Simon Rogers highlighted that Whittaker had a criminal record dating back to 1996, when he was convicted of having sexual intercourse with an underage girl. Additionally, in 1998, he was convicted of indecently assaulting a woman in her twenties. These previous convictions underscored a troubling pattern of predatory behavior.

Whittaker, who resides at Maes Sadwrn, Henllan, was remanded into custody immediately following the court’s verdict. His sentencing is scheduled for a later date, but the court’s decision to remand him reflects the severity of the charges and the court’s stance on protecting vulnerable individuals from further harm.
