ROBERT JONES SHOCKS DENBIGH WITH SEXUAL OFFENSES ON BUS AND HIGH STREET

In a series of disturbing incidents that have shocked the community of Denbigh, Robert Jones, a 53-year-old man residing at Maes Y Dre, has been convicted of multiple sexual offenses committed in public places, including buses and the town’s high street. The crimes, which spanned over several years, involved indecent acts performed in front of children and adults, causing widespread concern and outrage among residents.

Jones’s criminal behavior first came to light when he targeted a 15-year-old girl on a bus in January 2018. According to court reports, he sat beside her after touching her shoulder and made inappropriate comments about his preferences for girls in school uniforms. During this encounter, Jones was observed to have his hands down his pants, engaging in self-stimulatory behavior while speaking to the young girl. The girl, alarmed by his actions, moved to another seat but was followed by Jones until he finally left her alone, claiming he had "finished". The victim later provided a heartfelt statement, revealing how the incident disrupted her focus during her GCSE exams and left her questioning why she was targeted.

Further incidents occurred in June 2022, when Jones was seen performing a sex act while looking at an adult magazine in the presence of a 14-year-old schoolboy on the upper deck of a bus at approximately 7 am. This act of public indecency added to the mounting evidence against him.

In August 2022, Jones’s inappropriate behavior escalated when he exposed himself to a woman walking along Denbigh’s high street with her baby. The woman described how Jones approached them, getting "awkwardly close" before flashing her and attempting to maintain eye contact, causing her to feel threatened and uncomfortable. Later that same month, Jones was seen flashing a dog walker after striking up a conversation about her pet, further demonstrating his pattern of indecent exposure in public spaces.

Most recently, in April of this year, Jones targeted a woman at her mother’s graveside. Court reports state that he approached her with his hands in his pockets and appeared to be performing a sexual act on himself, prompting her to flee the scene in fear. These incidents culminated in his arrest and subsequent court proceedings.

During the trial, Jones was confronted with the evidence of his actions. When sentenced, Judge Nicola Saffman delivered a stern judgment, sentencing him to three years in prison for outraging public decency, exposure, and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child. The judge had to admonish Jones to "shut up and listen" as he interrupted proceedings, shouting words to the effect of "not true Your Honour". His barrister was seen gesturing for him to remain silent, but Jones continued to protest.

Following his conviction, Jones was escorted out of the courtroom by security guards. In addition to his prison sentence, he was issued a sexual harm prevention order, which prohibits him from having contact with children and from returning to the cemetery where the latest offense occurred. When police interviewed him, Jones denied all allegations, making "frank denials" and even accusing the five strangers involved of "colluding against him". The community of Denbigh now grapples with the aftermath of these disturbing revelations, and authorities remain vigilant to prevent further offenses by Jones.
