SIMON WEIR FROM ALYTH INVOLVED IN BRUTAL ATTACK AT PERTH PUB

A disturbing incident of violence unfolded at The Grill pub located in Flesher’s Vennel, Perth, involving a man named Simon Weir from Alyth. According to court records, the 41-year-old Weir engaged in a violent assault against his former partner during an evening at the pub. The altercation began when Weir, following a confrontation, poured a glass of water over his ex-girlfriend’s head. This seemingly minor act quickly escalated into a physical assault that shocked witnesses and was later captured on CCTV footage, which was presented during proceedings at Perth Sheriff Court.

Witnesses and court reports detailed that the situation intensified when Weir grabbed the woman by the neck, pinning her against a wall within the pub’s premises. He then proceeded to punch her repeatedly in the head, causing visible distress and injury. Despite the severity of the attack, Weir was not sentenced to imprisonment. Instead, the court ordered him to complete a community payback order, which entails performing 180 hours of unpaid work over a period of six months. The sheriff described Weir’s conduct as “criminal and violent,” but accepted a plea from his legal representative, David Holmes, for the community service alternative.

In addition to the assault, Weir admitted to damaging a mobile phone on June 20, 2019. The court was also informed that the victim had been in the pub around 2 pm with friends, but they left before the incident occurred at approximately 6:20 pm. At that time, she was sitting with a friend of Weir’s when he entered the pub and confronted her with the words, “What the f*** are you doing?” before pouring water over her head. In response, the woman threw her drink at Weir, which is believed to have been an act of retaliation, and the liquid struck a fruit machine near the entrance.

Police officers found the woman outside the pub, visibly distressed but declining medical treatment. She reported having a sore hand and a lump on her head, injuries consistent with the assault. The court heard that although the couple had not been romantically involved for approximately two months prior to the incident, Weir had continued to maintain contact with her afterward, including meeting her in the bar. It was noted that Weir’s temper had flared upon seeing her that evening, and during the court proceedings, he expressed remorse for his actions. The case highlights the ongoing issues of violence and the importance of legal measures to address such behavior, even when jail time is not imposed.
