SIMON NICHOLLS ROTHERHAM SEX OFFENDER FAILS TO NOTIFY POLICE BEFORE SPAIN HOLIDAY
In September 2020, a serious breach of legal obligations was brought to light involving Simon Nicholls, a registered sex offender residing in Rotherham. The case was heard at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court, where it was revealed that Nicholls, aged 48 and living at All Saints Meadows, Laughton Common, had failed to adhere to the strict registration requirements mandated by law.
Specifically, Nicholls admitted to neglecting to inform South Yorkshire Police of his plans to travel abroad to Spain in October 2019.
Under the Sexual Offences Act, registered offenders are required to notify authorities of any travel outside the United Kingdom in advance.
His failure to do so constituted a clear violation of these legal obligations.
Furthermore, Nicholls also confessed to neglecting other important registration duties.
He failed to complete his annual registration with the police in October 2019, a requirement for all offenders under the law.
Additionally, he did not notify authorities about acquiring a new passport in March 2019, which is also a legal obligation for registered offenders to ensure proper monitoring and compliance.
Prosecutor Emily King explained that police received information on October 18, 2019, indicating that Nicholls was in Spain.
However, this notification was supposed to be submitted before his departure from the UK, which he failed to do.
This oversight raised concerns about his compliance with the legal requirements designed to monitor sex offenders and prevent potential risks.
The magistrates decided to adjourn the case until November 13, 2019, to allow for a probation service report to be prepared.
This report will likely influence the subsequent legal proceedings and potential sentencing, emphasizing the seriousness with which such breaches are treated under the law.
