SIMON MYERS FROM YNYSFORGAN ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD INDECENT IMAGE SCANDAL IN SWANSEA
In a case that has shocked the community of Ynysforgan and the wider Swansea area, Simon Myers, a 32-year-old man, appeared before Swansea Crown Court to face serious allegations related to the possession and creation of indecent images of children. The court heard that Myers had been involved in these activities over a span of five years, during which he accumulated a disturbing collection of more than 400 indecent images.Myers, who resides on Wheatsheaf Drive in Ynysforgan, admitted to a total of 22 counts of making indecent images, one count of possessing a significant number of such images, specifically 406, and three counts involving images of extreme pornography that depicted both humans and animals. The offences, as detailed during the proceedings, date back to 2008, with Myers acknowledging that he had been accessing these illicit images since that year. However, he also stated that he had attempted to cease viewing such material following the birth of his one-year-old daughter, indicating an awareness of the potential harm and his own moral conflict.
Judge Huw Davies presided over the case and noted that Myers had initially accessed adult pornography but had allowed his curiosity to lead him further down a darker path. The judge explained that Myers had deliberately clicked on links that directed him to indecent images of children, and that he had repeated this behaviour intentionally. This pattern of behaviour was highlighted as a significant factor in the court's consideration.
During a police search of Myers' property, authorities discovered the extensive collection of images on two separate computers. The primary device, a Hitachi computer, was originally owned by Myers but had been handed over to his parents, under the mistaken belief that he had deleted all incriminating material. Despite this, the police found more than 400 images stored on the device. A second, newer Samsung computer was also seized during a search conducted at Myers' home in February, revealing additional illicit content.
While the court acknowledged that these offences appeared to be out of character for Myers, Judge Davies emphasized the profound impact such activities can have on victims and the community. The judge remarked that Myers' family found it difficult to believe he had engaged in such conduct, indicating a level of shock and disbelief within his immediate circle.
Furthermore, the judge highlighted the emotional and personal toll on Myers' own family, noting that his actions had led to him losing his job and experiencing a breakdown in his relationship with his daughter. In light of these factors, the court decided against imposing a custodial sentence. Instead, Myers was sentenced to a three-year community order, which includes three years of supervision, aimed at monitoring his behaviour and ensuring he receives appropriate support to address his conduct.
