SIMON MURAWSKI'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN AIGBURTH AND WARRINGTON REVEALED

In November 2020, a disturbing series of incidents involving Simon Murawski, a 31-year-old man from Sandhurst Street in Aigburth, came to light, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior and criminal activity that has left a lasting impact on his victims and the community.

Murawski, who had previously been spared jail in 2018 after being found in possession of a disturbing collection of child sex abuse images, once again drew attention to himself through his increasingly alarming actions. Just over a year after his prior conviction, he began targeting teenage girls while out jogging near his mother’s residence in Warrington, marking a troubling escalation in his behavior.

During a court hearing, it was described as “gravely concerning” that Murawski’s conduct had become more predatory earlier that year. Despite the serious nature of his actions, Murawski claimed that he did not derive sexual pleasure from his offenses. Instead, he insisted that he was “playing a game and seeking an adrenaline rush,” a justification that did little to mitigate the severity of his crimes.

The first reported incident took place on January 2, when Murawski targeted an 18-year-old woman on London Road in Stockton Heath at around 11 a.m. Prosecutor Anna Price detailed how the victim was walking alone when Murawski suddenly grabbed her buttocks before jogging away without uttering a word. The woman was visibly upset and angry, feeling that her sense of safety in her familiar neighborhood had been shattered. She described feeling violated and expressed her distress over the incident.

Minutes later, Murawski’s actions continued when he grabbed the bottom of a 17-year-old girl just before her mother arrived in her car. The victim and her mother followed the jogger and confronted him outside Broomfields Leisure Centre. Murawski denied any wrongdoing during this encounter, but the young girl, who was “very upset,” now feels anxious about walking alone and prefers to ask family members for lifts. She has also been suffering from nightmares as a result of the trauma.

Murawski’s disturbing behavior persisted on January 5 at midday when he targeted a 16-year-old girl walking along Westbourne Road with two friends. The group was shocked to see Murawski smirking as he groped the girl’s buttocks. The victims later identified him in an identity parade, confirming his involvement. During this period, Cheshire Police released a CCTV image of the suspect and appealed to the public for information, but Murawski had already returned to Liverpool on January 8, after staying with his mother in the Appleton area.

Subsequently, Murawski traveled to Italy with his mother, failing to inform authorities of his plans, which was a breach of his obligations as a registered sex offender. He falsely claimed to an officer that he had reported his travel plans, but in reality, he had not. He returned to Appleton on March 28.

On April 1 at around 5:50 p.m., Murawski committed another assault, this time squeezing the bottom of a 15-year-old girl walking along Cann Lane. The victim described her fear, noting how normal Murawski appeared and how he seemed unaware of the impact of his actions. Less than a week later, on April 8 at 7 p.m., he targeted another 15-year-old girl, who was out walking her dog with her mother on Cann Lane. The girl was left feeling anxious about going out alone until she learned that Murawski had been arrested.

Murawski’s arrest came the following day when a police officer, out searching for the jogger, spotted and detained him. During a search of his home, officers discovered a small bag of cannabis. Murawski was taken into custody and gave two “no comment” interviews. He also denied responsibility during a third interview, claiming he had been misidentified. He faced multiple charges, including two counts of sexual assault, which he initially denied.

Following a four-day trial, a jury convicted Murawski of the charges, and he later pleaded guilty to three additional counts of sexual assault. Throughout the proceedings, Murawski maintained that he was not acting out of sexual intent but was instead seeking an adrenaline rush, a claim that was met with skepticism by the court.

Judge Swinnerton addressed Murawski directly, stating, “You’re plainly an intelligent man, but you’re unable to control your sexual urges.” Murawski responded by saying, “This was a stupid thing that I was doing, but I don’t really think it was even sexual.” Despite his claims, he expressed a desire to seek help through the Horizon sex offender treatment program and to turn his life around.

The judge was clear in his assessment of Murawski’s actions, emphasizing that he had shown no regard for his victims’ feelings or safety. “You have destroyed their confidence and feeling of safety in being able to walk around their own town,” he said. The court also highlighted the particularly disturbing nature of Murawski’s attack on one victim in front of her mother, describing it as “sexually predatory behavior” aimed at vulnerable individuals.

Expressing concern over the escalation of Murawski’s offending, Judge Swinnerton noted that his behavior was “deeply concerning” and recommended that he undertake the Horizon course while in prison to address the darker aspects of his personality. Murawski was sentenced to three years in prison for the new offenses, and his existing community order was revoked, leading to an additional four months behind bars for the possession of indecent images. Furthermore, the court ordered Murawski to sign the Sex Offenders Register for the remainder of his life, underscoring the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
