SIMON JAMES TEAGUE FROM LLANDILO FACES SERIOUS CHILD SEX IMAGE CHARGES IN CARMARTHEN
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Llandeilo, 36-year-old Simon James Teague appeared before magistrates to face charges related to the possession of a significant number of indecent images of children. The proceedings revealed that Teague had on his computer a total of 7,740 such images, which police uncovered during a detailed examination of his device on December 14, 2011.Teague, who provided his bail address as 36b Queen Street, Neath, pleaded guilty to possessing these images. The charges included 16 specific specimen counts linked to the images found on his computer. The court was informed that the classification of these images was based on a grading system used by specially-trained police officers, dividing the images into five categories according to their level of obscenity and disturbing content. Category Five images are considered the most heinous and repulsive.
During the police investigation, officers discovered a disturbing distribution of images across the categories. Specifically, they found 6,377 images classified as Category One, which are considered the least severe, along with 92 images in Category Two and 984 in Category Three. Further, the search revealed 307 images in Category Four and 15 in the most serious Category Five. Teague admitted to possessing all these images, acknowledging the charges against him.
Prosecutor Gerald Neave argued that the gravity of Teague’s offending was such that the case should not be handled by magistrates alone. He emphasized that the severity of the crimes warranted a sentence from the Crown Court, which has the authority to impose more substantial penalties. The magistrates concurred with this assessment and agreed to transfer the case to Swansea Crown Court for sentencing.
In their remarks, the magistrates stated, “The offences we have heard about this afternoon require a greater punishment than we can give.” They scheduled Teague’s next court appearance for June 18 at Swansea Crown Court, where he will face sentencing. Additionally, Teague was informed that his name would be immediately added to the sex offenders’ register, a move that carries significant implications for his future.
As part of the court’s orders, Teague was prohibited from attending any property in Llandeilo and was banned from using computers, mobile phones, or any devices capable of internet access. Furthermore, he was instructed to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18, reflecting the serious nature of the charges and the court’s concern for public safety.
