SIMON HALL FROM ANDOVER SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN WINCHESTER
In a case that has shocked the local community of Andover, Simon John Hall, a well-known figure involved in various charitable activities, has been sentenced to three years in prison for historic child sex offences. The sentencing took place during a hearing at Winchester Crown Court on Friday, 29 April, where Hall, aged 46, pleaded guilty to two serious charges related to abuse that occurred over two decades ago.Hall was convicted of indecent assault on a female, a crime that he admitted to and for which he received a three-year prison term. Additionally, he was sentenced to a concurrent one-year term for a charge of indecency with a child under 16. As part of his sentence, Hall was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £120. It is important to note that Hall denied several other allegations, which will remain on his criminal record but are not part of the current conviction.
The offences in question took place between 1992 and 1994, a period when Hall was in his early twenties. Despite his criminal charges, Hall was once a prominent and respected member of the Andover community. He had a longstanding association with the local cycling club, Andover Wheelers, spanning over 35 years, and also claimed to serve as a part-time firefighter.
Beyond his personal interests, Hall was heavily involved in charitable work. He served as an ambassador for Naomi House and Jacksplace, two well-known children’s hospices, and dedicated many hours to fundraising efforts. Over a span of seven years, he helped raise thousands of pounds to support the children’s hospices, earning him recognition and respect within the community. One of his notable contributions was his regular organization of the Salisbury Plain Cycle Challenge, an event that drew participation from many local residents.
Keith Wilson, a spokesperson for Naomi House & Jacksplace, issued a statement following the sentencing, saying: “We are aware of the recent sentencing of Simon Hall and can confirm that he assisted our fundraising teams on a volunteer basis.” The community now grapples with the contrast between Hall’s previous reputation as a dedicated volunteer and his criminal convictions, which have cast a shadow over his past contributions.
