SIMON GODFREY'S CRIMES IN WEST HENDFORD AND BRISTOL: SEX OFFENDER'S SHOCKING BREACHES AND ABUSE REVEALED

In a series of disturbing incidents spanning several years, Simon Godfrey, a man with a troubling criminal history, has been involved in multiple offenses related to sexual misconduct and violations of court orders. His actions have caused significant distress to victims and have prompted serious legal repercussions.

In 2020, Godfrey was convicted and subsequently sentenced to serve 32 months in prison after he was found guilty of breaching a sexual harm prevention order. The breach occurred when he engaged in conversations with what he believed to be a 13-year-old girl, during which he explicitly asked her for sexual activities. The police had previously arrested him in 2019 after receiving information that led to his detention. At Taunton Crown Court, he was also convicted of failing to comply with sex offender register requirements and breaching the sexual harm prevention order. As part of his sentence, he was handed a ten-year order to stay away from the victim and a ten-year registration on the sex offenders register.

Earlier, in March 2018, Godfrey's criminal conduct involved persuading a teenage girl with learning difficulties from Bristol to send him nude photographs. The victim, aged 18 at the time, was left feeling ashamed and insecure about her body due to his manipulative actions. The court heard that Godfrey, a registered sex offender from Yeovil, initially engaged her in online conversations, gradually becoming more controlling and needy. When she refused to meet him in person, he threatened to have girls he knew in Bristol assault her. He also demanded a nude photo, threatening to visit her college if she refused. After she complied, he responded by sending her a picture of his genitals, which terrified her and caused her to suffer sleepless nights, nightmares, and a loss of trust in others.

Godfrey, aged 26 and residing in West Hendford, pleaded guilty to sending a grossly offensive or indecent message via electronic communication between August 1 and 28, 2019, in Bristol. Prosecutor Emma Lenanton detailed how the victim, who had learning difficulties, was vulnerable and significantly below her actual age. She recounted her feelings of shame, insecurity, and fear, emphasizing the emotional and psychological toll inflicted by Godfrey’s actions. The victim’s statement revealed her sense of being manipulated and controlled, which severely impacted her social life and mental health.

The court sentenced Godfrey to 12 weeks in custody, suspended for 18 months, with the condition that he remains law-abiding during this period. Additionally, he was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £115. The magistrates highlighted his previous convictions, underscoring the seriousness of his offenses and the need for ongoing supervision.

Further back in November 2015, a judge at Taunton Crown Court expressed concern over the extensive collection of illegal images on Godfrey’s phone, which contained approximately 70,000 images. The court was informed that Godfrey, then 24 and currently remanded at Exeter Prison, had admitted to grooming an underage girl and failing to comply with the sex offenders register. The police were actively investigating whether any of the images were criminal in nature, and additional charges of possessing illegal images and assault involving two other young girls were possible. The judge urged law enforcement to expedite their inquiries, acknowledging the lengthy process involved. Godfrey, who has expressed a desire for help and support, was ordered to reappear in court on December 16 to continue his legal proceedings.
