NEWRY MAN CHARGED WITH RAPE AND THREATS TO KILL
A man identified as Silinskas Andrius, aged 38, from Castleblaney Street, Newtownhamilton, was arrested and brought before a Newry court following serious allegations. The court heard that Andrius was charged with rape and threatening to kill a woman.
These charges arose after an incident where he met a woman at the airport in Northern Ireland.
The woman, after responding to an employment ad, traveled to the region and met Andrius at the airport.
He appeared intoxicated and took her to his residence where he continued drinking.
The prosecution stated that Andrius wanted to have sex with her, but she refused.
He then threatened to kill her, assaulted her by slapping her face, and raped her.
The woman managed to escape by running out of his back door naked and raising alarm.
When police arrested Andrius, he denied any sexual contact with the woman.
Further, he is charged with choking, assault, and breaching a UK deportation order issued by Norfolk police in 2017.
The court was informed that he had violated the deportation order, which led to objection from the prosecution for bail, fearing he might leave the country.
His defense argued that the breach was a mistake as he traveled into Dublin before moving to Northern Ireland.
The court decided to refuse bail and adjourned the case.
