SHEILA JONES JAILED FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF ELDERLY GRANDMOTHER
A woman who murdered her 92-year-old grandmother following the theft of her savings has been sentenced to at least 22 years and six months in prison. The elderly woman, Daisy Myring, was discovered with severe injuries to her head and body at her home in Brownhills, Walsall, West Midlands, and passed away several hours later on May 31.
Sheila Jones, aged 36, who lives on Brownhills Road in Norton Canes, Staffordshire, pleaded guilty to the charge of murder at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Prosecutors revealed that Jones had taken more than £6,000 from her grandmother’s bank accounts.
The post-mortem report confirmed her death resulted from blunt force injuries, with evidence indicating she was struck multiple times on the head, including assaults involving a plastic stool.
Over an eight-month period, Jones exploited her position as a carer to access and pilfer her grandmother's funds, successfully withdrawing £6,800 across 14 separate transactions.
She initially tried to disguise her crime by planning to suffocate her grandmother using a torch and pillow, aiming to make the death appear natural, perhaps due to health issues.
However, her attempt to cover up the murder turned into a violent attack.
Police apprehended Jones two days afterward, finding her in possession of bloodstained objects linked to the incident.
Judge Phillip Parker QC remarked, ‘You went there to kill her.
It was motivated by a desire to silence her and to prevent her from revealing the theft.’ The judge also described the attack’s brutality on an innocent and vulnerable woman.
The family voiced both their grief and relief, highlighting Daisy Myring’s kindness and the profound sense of loss they now feel.
