BISHOP AUCKLAND SEX OFFENDER SHAUN JACKSON JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER HOLDING WOMAN CAPTIVE
A sex offender known as Shaun Jackson, from Eldon Lane, Bishop Auckland, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for holding a woman captive and subjecting her to horrendous sexual violence.Jackson detained his victim, a woman in her 20s, in a County Durham property for approximately 36 hours.
During this time, he assaulted her physically by punching and strangling her, and also threatened her with a knife.
Following these assaults, he raped her and carried out a prolonged sexual attack.
The brave victim was able to escape and contacted the police.
Jackson was swiftly arrested and earlier pleaded guilty to raping her.
At Durham Crown Court, he was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum tariff of six years and nine months.
Additionally, he was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and subjected to a lifelong restraining order.
Detective Sergeant Clare Riley of Bishop Auckland CID commented on the case, emphasizing the seriousness with which Durham Constabulary treats high harm sexual offences, and stated that Jackson’s life sentence ensures other potential victims are protected.
Riley also praised the victim for her bravery in coming forward and highlighted that Jackson had previously served over ten years in prison after admitting to unlawful and malicious wounding and rape.
