MAN JAILED FOR BRUTALLY ATTACKING A WOMAN IN HER SLEEP
A conviction based on substantial evidence has led to a man being sentenced for a violent assault on a woman while she was sleeping.Carl Thexton, angered after discovering that the woman had a Snapchat account used to communicate with a friend who had recently become a parent, launched a brutal attack during her sleep.
The 40-year-old struck her multiple times, resulting in swelling, a black eye, and bruises on her neck and leg.
Police officers responded to a call at the residence in Low Bollihope, where they arrested Thexton.
He was subsequently charged with causing actual bodily harm.
During proceedings at Durham Crown Court on May 14, Thexton, of Witton Park, Bishop Auckland, admitted to the charge and received a seven-month prison sentence.
Additionally, a restraining order was issued to prevent him from contacting the woman.
Despite the woman’s lack of support for a police investigation, authorities pursued the case based on strong evidence.
This evidence-led prosecution approach is employed when victims withdraw cooperation or refuse to participate, allowing prosecutors to build a case that does not depend solely on the victim’s testimony.
